act 1 scene 3

i had to enter stage left because stage right had been sold to pay the playhouse mortgage it was now a korean butchershop playing the lead in the community production of a piece i wrote titled cornucopia and the llama sacrifice song i was hot and sweaty in my glazed ham costume and all i could think about was that summer when i fell in love with myself it was like i was made for myself the conversations were so deep and the sex was unbelievable it's like i knew my every thought what i liked what i didn't and when i said no i really meant yes and when i said yes i really meant maybe and when i said maybe i really meant no it was the best 48 hour love affair of my life but it's too bad i had to break my own heart because the other me fell for the korean butcher figures i guess i should have seen that coming a mile away and then it was time for me to walk across the stage and lie down on the silver platter so i reached up to check and see if i still had my lucky banana tucked behind my ear sometimes as a performer you need to have an extra gag handy act 2 scene 2

419

We grow accustomed to the dark-
When Light is put away-
As when the Neighbor holds the Lamp
To witness her Goodbye-

A Moment-We uncertain step
For newness of the night-
Then-fit our Vision to the Dark-
And meet the Road-erect-

And so of larger Darknesses-
Those Evenings of the Brain-
When not a Moon disclose a sign-
Or star-come out-within-

The Bravest - grope a little-
And sometimes hit a Tree

Directly in the Forehead
But as they learn to see-

Either the Darkness alters-
Or something in the sight
Adjusts itself to Midnight-
And Life steps almost straight.

mouth-played instrument

she held only the choicest cuts

traipsing  - - - -  across your abstruse moon
falling into every crater

they never answer
